Age Old Arguments

This was a bit of fun using a repurposed canvas LOADS of
Andy's stamps and DecoArt paints and mediums!

Bit of background stamping and masking...
Background canvas coloured with inks and paints, stamped all the way round. Images stamped onto velum with white embossing powder, cut out, glued to background then onto the canvas.......
Spider embossed and embellished, cloth added, gravestones coloured .....
Clear modelling paste to give more texture and interest for the washes of colour to follow......
and it really does dry clear!
Lots of washes of colour. Some dry brushing, more washes,
Words typed, printed, cut out and coloured. The shading added with Cobalt Black......

Close ups of some areas of the canvas
Embellies painted, rust dripped, and you can see the modelling paste better in this pic.....
Gems added to grave stone crosses and for the eyes of the characters, rusty wire used for the lead,
dry brushing on some of the stamping and background texture to bring it forward.....

And all done.....for now! More detail on steps and colours used on my blog.
Thanks for looking. Suz xxx

Reference Tags

Hi everyone Dee here with a new post highlighting how I remember Andy's
different techniques!
I use Tando Creative industrial elements door plate sets & tags.
you can write/note on the back how he created the effects.
It gives you a tangible reference and can be very handy for inspiring you
when you hit a wall.
I used Deco art Media paints and mediums/texture paste for the examples.
This one was created with silver, prussian blue hue, yellow iron oxide
& Deco page glue plus some salt.
This was stamped I stamped using Andy's stamps from the Shabby Chic plate with deco page glue then watery washes of Paynes grey with salt thrown on then dried. One half has a wash of Quinacridone gold on it.
I used an embossing folder on card that had foil tape applied then using washes of both Paynes Grey and quinacridone gold i dated it on to create the effect. I think the base plate was modelling paste through the clock stencil then same washes applied and stamped with any industrial stamps using metallic silver media acrylics.
Andy's rusted tin technique was used the detail are on one of his online workshops called timeworn. The base was painted with media crackle paint then washed with Cobalt Turquoise and followed with a dirty was a torn piece of paper was added for decoration.
A tag was painted with Pyrrole Red then using Andy's stencils Titan Buff was used followed by a dirty wash. Next I stamped Andy's Clock stamp and used a black die cut to finish off.
Gesso was stippled onto a tag colours of Quinacridone gold, Paynes grey and Raw umber were then applied over the top. The clock stencil was used with titan buff and i just added some accents to make it more interesting.
Crackle paste with weatherwood and hair texture paste put in areas then once dry knocked back a bit of embossing for interest.
Some more photo's
The whole set.
I hope this has given you some ideas on how you can use tags to help with your inspiration or to help keep a diary of different techniques.
Thanks for taking the time to pop by.
Cheers Dee x

" Chained And Geared" By Heather Thompson

I am back after a fabulous holiday with so many great friends. After a very creative weekend with the crew at Ministry of Mixology, I jumped right in creating when I landed on home soil.
IMG_3577
I created a gear filled, rusted mechanical assemble, "Chained and Geared" and totally ready to go.
I  love this tag, I love how it has the illusion of actually working cogs and gears.
IMG_3590
Using rusty wire, I anchored the chain down in order to work around the gears and keep things where they ought to be.
IMG_3587
I have already thought about expanding this tag, and continuing the theme all the way around the backside of the tag. How cool would that be? A 3-D tag.......oh the possibilities.

Here are a few close ups for you .

So stay tuned for phase 2 of the evolution of the tag.

Have a great creative Day

Barouque Grunge Tag by Fiona Randall

Morning all Fiona here with a Grungy Baroque inspired tag to share.

To start prime the large tag from Andy's Tagtastic 1 kit with DecoArt Media Tinting base. Next stamp with Andy's Textures stamp set from Stampendous in the centre of the tag with Watering Can Archival ink. In a couple of mini mister bottles apply Decoart Media fluid acrylics in Prussian Blue Hue and Quinacridone Gold and mist over the tag drying between layers until achieving the desired effect. Then edge the tag with Decoart Media Fluid Acrylic in Raw Umber.

Next take the greyboard heart from Andy's Tagtastic 1 kit and apply Andy's rust technique. When dry apply DecoArt Media Modelling paste through Andy's Baroque stencil using one of the corner designs and apply watered down Metallic Lustre in Vintage brass to the raised areas.

Apply DecoArt Media Texture sand paste to a Cog and Porthole from Andy's Tagtastic 1 kit. When dry apply Andy's rust technique to the cog and Decoart Extreme sheen in vintage brass to the porthole. Apply a coat of DecoArt Media Antiquing cream in black to the porthole and wipe back for an aged effect.

Take a Small flaming heart from Andy's Flaming Heart set  from Tando Creative and apply a base coat of Red a mix of Primary Magenta with a Touch of Paynes Grey Media Fluid Acrylics. Stamp a Number from Andy's Illusionary Artists Word up and Numbers Set onto Craft card and attach to the heart base. Apply Extreme Sheen Acrylic paint in vintage brass to the heart frame and the flames apply Antiquing cream in black and wipe back for an aged effect. Apply frame and flame to the heart base and fill heart recess with DecoArt Triple Thick Glaze.

Layer up porthole, cog and flaming heart and attach to the large heart and  then affix to the tag base to complete.

Here's a close up of the detail.
