Image Transfer Workshop

I have just spent the weekend at the Craft Barn where on Saturday we were demoing Xmas cards, a bit out of my comfort zone but I really enjoyed it.

On Sunday I held the Rejoice workshop which involved paint and rust techniques followed by image transfer and two step crackle application.
A big hello to everyone attending… cakes to die for and a very talented bunch!
Here was my original piece.

Unfortunately we struggled for time on this workshop, all the elements were made but we did not get time to antique the two part crackle medium and fit the bits together so the pieces were taken home to add the finishing touches but all the techniques were covered.
Here are the pictures of everyone's pieces before antiquing and adding the remaining elements, I think you will agree that all of them are brilliant!

Finally I noticed a parcel placed in my paint brush bag, I checked it for ticking and apprehensively opened it to reveal this fantastic Edward Monkton cup!!

A huge thank you to whoever left this, there was no name on the tag but just to let you know I love it!!
Thanks for reading,

Rejoice

I have come to the end of what has been a very stressful month both personally and workwise, the final touches went into the Outcasts workshop last Thursday and it launched on Friday,  I cant wait to see the work from the lifetime members being posted on the forum, exciting times!
am at the Craft Barn this weekend, demonstrating on Saturday and holding a workshop on Sunday called Rejoice.
A couple of months ago I posted the piece below called Genesis.

The piece above took quite a few days to complete but I somehow wanted to incorporate some of the main techniques into a single day's workshop, so starting with this thermometer!!

I ended up with this… Rejoice

How to Retro Clock

Sorry to all feed subscribers for the test message sent yesterday, Feedburner had stopped Emailing my feeds and this took me a while to work out the problem, all does seems to be working now.
The post that was missed can be found here

Ok so here is the Retro Clock I have just made for my friend Joe, I will attempt to roughly guide you through it!

I designed the clock face using Photoshop and printed it onto bog standard plain printing paper, I would have used better quality paper but there was none to hand.
Just to let you know I have placed these designs in my Picasa drop box to share with you, one with, and one without the name so you could add your own like Mums diner etc.. I have had to cut the resolution a little but they should be fine.
The font I have used is called Lokicola which you should be able to find on the web if you wish to use it. They are sized exactly for the clock blank I have used.
Here is a link to the images Dropbox

The substrate I decided to use for the Clock is a bisque clock blank available from the craft barn. view it .
On one side of the clock it has raised numbers as picture below, on the other it's flat so that you can alter it to your hearts content! You could decorate both sides and simply turn the clock to suit your mood!
Here is a painted sample of the numbered side.

Here is a link to a pdf tutorial for this clock…My I’m being generous today Smile

Ok where was I? Ah yes, I sealed the surface of the bisque with Decoart multi surface sealer and allowed it to dry. While drying I cut out my clock face out with scissors.

I then glued the paper clock face onto the surface of the bisque using Americana matte decoupage glue, you could also use Ranger glue & seal.
Once dry I aged the surface with Versa Magic chalk ink and a blending tool. Note; Do not use Distress inks if you are going to use a liquid sealer on top, they will fade & smudge, there is a way to do it with distress inks but its long winded and I will leave that how to for another day.
Next I sealed the surface with Duraclear Polyurethane satin varnish, once dry I added Decoart 2 step perfect crackle to small random areas on the surface.
Once this had dried, I watered down a little Americana Burnt Umber and wiped this into the crackle glaze to accentuate the cracks.

Finally rust was added to the edges and a clock mechanism fitted.

THE END

Take care,

Andy

It’s a Date!

Whilst at the Craft Barn last week, they were kind enough to let me choose a few wooden items to have a play with. I just had to have this wooden calendar!

DESK CALENDAR
The Calendar measures approx. 13x5.5x19cm & only costs £4.99!
First of all I aged the number and date blocks with Brushed Corduroy Distress ink followed by a coat of Decoart perfect crackle.

I then went to town with a steampunk style using Americana acrylic paint and a few odds & ends lying in the bottom of my scrap box!.

This will be the last steampunk piece for a little while as I am sure you're all getting very bored by me & also I have some new media that I really want to play with this week.

Bye for now,
Andy

da Vinci returns

I had one last photocopy left of the study of a woman's head by da Vinci and decided to use it on an old box canvas that has been kicking around.
It was just a practice to see how Decoart’s modeling paste would react with distress ink’s and Decoart’s two part Perfect Crackle medium and it did not let me down!

Andy Skinner da Vinchi returns
Unlike Gesso this modeling paste absorbs the Distress inks in fact it loves them and stamping into it is a breeze!

The two part Perfect Crackle Medium worked brilliantly also.

There are a few different techniques used on this canvas including acrylic blistering and modeling paste application.
I may do a video on it if time allows!

Have a great weekend everyone,

Andy

Altered Canvas

I seem to have lots of pieces lying around with just backgrounds on them which have been left over from some of the background videos. The Decopatch 12 x 12cm square canvas pictured below was used in the Distressed wall video and I decided to cut a hole in it and place a few curio’s inside along with wooden battens and a little rusted chicken wire!….Hey…. I get bored easily ok!!

I also masked of an area with some card before blending Brushed Corduroy Distress ink around it to give the appearance that a picture had once hung there.
I then stamped and added some Decoart perfect crackle in a couple of areas to add to the overall effect.

Wooden it be lovely!

Hi everyone,
I have made a start on a couple of the wooden pieces and also a new chipboard item.
Below is a small key Chest from the Craft Barn which has been painted with Americana acrylic, a little bit of alcohol sprayed on and some Distress Ink. It was then finished with Decoart’s two part Perfect Crackle medium, I love this stuff as it is so controllable and you get great results every time.

Next is a tin roof bird house, this again has been painted with Americana acrylic which is waterproof, a little Distress ink, Alcohol Ink for the tin roof and finally sprayed with some Perfect Pearls Mists.

And finally I just received this today, its a chipboard suitcase! It comes in two sizes, the smallest being 25cm x 20cm x 8cm and the next size up is 27.5cm x 22.5cm x 9.5cm.
It would make a lovely memory box. I have decorated this one Vagabond style to keep old postcards in!
