Eternal Black Tag- Fiona Randall

Because the Heart can sometimes be Eternally Black.

The base tag is from Andy's TAGTASTIC 2 kit and the smaller tag is from Tando Creative Tags Mega Bundle. Both were given a coat of DecoArt Media Tinting base and the sprayed with watered down paynes grey media fluid acrylic in a mini mister bottle. Archival ink in Watering Can was then applied to all edges of the tags to give definition. Stamping was then added to both tags using stamps from Andy's TEXTURES stamp set ( my favourite go to stamps ) using Black Archival Ink.. Then splatters were added with titanium white media fluid acrylic. The small tag was then layered on top of the large tag using an off cut of grey board to give height and definition. I then painted the base of the large heart from Andy's FLAMING HEART set with Carbon Black media fluid acrylic. The frame and the flames were then given a coat of silver media fluid acrylic and once dry the frame was attached to the base. A coat of Media Antiquing cream in black was added to the frame and flames and wiped back to give a tarnished look. The Eternal sentiment from Andy's WORD UP Stamp Set was then stamped onto a piece of card using black Archival ink and then glued into place within the heart. The Heart recess was then filled with DecoArt Triple Thick Glaze and when dry the Flaming Heart was then attached to the  layered tag to finish. I love the look of the triple thick glaze when set as it gives an enamel feel to the piece.
Here's a close up of the detail.

Acrylic Pour Leftover Background - My First post for Andy's Team.

Good morning all,

I am so happy to be here, on Andy's team!  Some of you probably know that I have known Andy a few years now, and am a DecoArt Helping Artist, and also demonstrate the DecoArt line on Hochanda in between Andy's shows.  I am super lucky and privileged to have the job I do, and to be able to share it with you.

For my first post I am sharing an MDF and Greyboard pieces canvas, made with an acrylic pour background.  I had mixed a lot of paint for the pours, and found I had too much of course, so continued to make backgrounds with the paint I had left.  The one I used was a muted one that I had 'swiped' a couple of times and it ended up not as vibrant as some others, but made a perfect start for a background.

On top of the background I stamped Andy's Fish Skeleton stamp, in white chalk paint.  Over this I added a texture stamp in black Archival in areas.

The layering is Tando Greyboard shapes, which I 'smooshed' face down into the leftover paint in my tray from the pours.  I made tons of these, and probably have enough for another 3 or 4 projects!  After that, if you have any paint left still, a tip is to run some card or paper through it, then you have more backgrounds or card to die cut with lovely paint patterns on, a ready made embellishment.

All of the boards were stamped with the texture stamp in Archival, and then words/numbers added to some with black Versafine, and embossed with clear embossing powder...  I prefer clear embossing powder on black ink to black embossing powder, as if you can't brush off all of the excess it doesn't show like a coloured powder would. The frog circle was then covered with Crackle Glaze to give dimension and shine.

The fossil was an old fridge magnet I had, but was the perfect size, so it had a layer of Tinting Base, and then Yellow Oxide, and some Paynes Grey, to give it a 'Quarry Fossil' look.

The main panel and all of the smaller panels were then edged in DecoArt Metallic Lustre, in Iced Espresso, using my finger to apply.  There is a lot of texture in the finished piece from the 'smooshed' panels, as they take on the effect of seaweed from prizing them up from the paint and being left to dry naturally.

I hope you like my first post, can't wait to bring you more.

Best Wishes,

Nikki K.

Following up Ministry of Mixology

HI, it's Brenda here and in my last post I shared a project that was totally inspired by Andy and told you I was on my way to Coventry that day to attend the Ministry of Mixology weekend. Well I've been to another since then lol. This was my April Mixology Make and Take that 10 lovely ladies sat down and made with me.

There are quite a few of us who take a Make and Take session on the Saturday evening for about an hour and a half which you can attend for a small fee. It is very popular.

I used two of the Tando Creative media boards one small and one larger one placed on top of each other with the sun rays (my name for this shape) fitted between them.

The smaller parts are from the new kit called Sacred Secrets showing how versatile these kits designed by Andy and made by Tando Creative really are. I love mixing them up and creating new designs from them

There's plenty of texture, rusting and shabby elements put together with one of my own computer generated words.

If you haven't joined us yet at a MoM event I really do recommend it as a fantastic weekend full of lots of creative inspiration and fun. To all my lovely friends who already attend, it was brilliant seeing you again last weekend. Unfortunately I can't make the next one in November but I look forward to next April when we will catch up again.

Ancient Jungle Drawer with Andy Skinner kit manufactured by Tando Creative

Hello all, today is Phoebe here to show you an altered drawer using the new Andy Skinner kit manufactured by Tando Creative, Compendium.
This gorgeous and very versatile kit will soon be in store. Stay tuned at Tando !

I used the biggest gear from the kit to create the main focal point of this piece. One of the greatest things of Tando 's greyboard is that, they are thick enough but also very flexible. I only needed to spray a little bit water and then it bent easily to fit the shape of the drawer.

There are many different shapes of parts in different details of the kit. I kept most of them as they are. I enjoyed using the negative part of the kit (the left over after you cut the parts out from the kit) as the background, and also a few here and there adding to the whole build up.

After putting DecoArt Media Texture Sand Paste on random areas of the whole piece, I coloured the piece using the colours listed below. Remember to use only small amount of paint when putting them on the surface. If you feel it is too heavy, spray with water or lightly pad with tissue and then add more layers until you are happy with it.

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Transparent Yellow iron Oxide
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Vermilion

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Viridian Green Hue
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Green Gold

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Carbon Black

I used Andy 's new Illusionary Artists stamp set for the name plate.
The crackle is made with DecoArt Weathered Wood.

Since this is a square shaped box, so basically it can shrift to another direction depend on which way you want to see it.

Please go look up the new kits from Tando and also the new stamp sets !!
Until next time !

FUN WITH FOSSIL FISH AND FRIENDS

Hello again and welcome back!

Today I am sharing with you a very sturdy tag I've created using elements from an all new Andy Skinner Manufactured by Tando Creative's Tagtastic Set coupled with Andy's new Fossil Stamp set from Stampendous

This Fossil Stamp set is all the rage!  There are shells, a fern leaf, a cute little froggie and the very detailed and delightful fish. This stamp has so many possibilities; from stamping with ink to stamping into modeling paste to create a real fossil look.

I smeared DecoArt Media Modeling Paste onto this smaller laser cut tag from Tando Creative.  I heat set the Modeling Paste to almost but not quite dry. Then I spritzed the frog stamp with water and pressed it into the almost dry modeling paste.  This created the fossilized look onto the tag.  Next I colorized the tag using various DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics paint colors.  I then stamped the frog image onto a piece of white tissue paper, tore around the edges and using DecoArt's Matte Medium, I glued and sealed the stamped frog image in place over the fossilized area on the tag.

The smaller tag is attached to the larger tag with another of Tando Creative's wonderful pieces from this tag set; the cogs and wheels. Using a variation of Andy's rust techniques; this "metal" cog looks very old and rusty with a touch of patina.

Also, notice the beautiful crackling effect of the background.  This was done using DecoArt's Media Crackle Paint on the base and then colorized with various Media Fluid Acrylics colors.

This fish!  This fish!  I love this fish!  It' so detailed and a wonderful size for all sorts of mixed media projects! As a finishing touch, I added small bits of Stampendous Frantage Pealized Mica Fragments.

'Dead Stylish' Tag

Hi all,
A quick post to show a fun tag I've created using some of Andy's new stamps from the Illusionary Artists 'Spook' set.

I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics on the stamped images, and several Metallics on the background and part of the crown and strap.

The background is a Tando Creative greyboard tag. This I split into 4 layers (details on my blog) to make the tag a bit thinner, then I embossed it with Andy's Starburst stencil before decorating. Products used are in the pic below.

I used a pyrography tool to singe the edges and add the dimples.

Little tip here, the Spook stamp set also gives you a FULL alphabet to play with (it's the Ouija stamp!) and that's what I've stamped, embossed with Stampendous Black Pearl Lustre embossing powder, coloured with paint washes and cut out to create the words. Having snipped out the letters I glued them onto a background I had painted with the red. Then the shrink plastic sign and wire were added to finish it off. More details on my blog. Thanks for looking! Suz x

Picture of products used - though forgive the stencil being in the wrong packet - it's called Sunburst not Tornado!

A VINTAGE SANTA AS AN ORNAMENT OR GIFT TAG

It's almost Christmas!  Have you got your gifts wrapped and under the tree?
They need tags, right?  Or how about a handmade vintage tag as an ornament on your tree?

This vintage style tag was created using a standard manila tag along with DecoArt products and Tando Creative Laser die cuts.

Before we get into the tutorial, let's list the products you'll need for this project:

  • DecoArt Decoupage Paper (sheet music)
  • DecoArt Media Matte Medium
  • DecoArt Media Crackle Paste
  • DecoArt Chalky Finish Romance (red) Paint
  • DecoArt Vintage Effects White Paint
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Burnt Umber
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Metallic Gold
  • DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide
  • Decoart Media Liquid Glass

  • Clock Face
  • Large Book Plate
Other Miscellaneous Supplies:

  • Palette Knife
  • Paint Brush
  • Craft Mat
  • Regular Size Manila Tag
  • White Flocking
  • Holly Greenery Garland
  • Vintage Bells
  • Vintage Beads (to embellish the garland)
  • Gold Ribbon (to create a small bow)
  • Craft Pick (to clean out excess Crackle Paste on Tando Creative pieces)
  • Anna Giffin Santa Tags
  • Adhesive Pop Dots
  • Dear Santa Stamp
  • Permanent Black Ink
Now let's begin to create ...

Step 1:  Brush DecoArt Media Matte Medium onto a regular tag and lay the sheet music decoupage paper on top of the tag.  Press into place; removing all air bubbles and wrinkles.  Heat set then cut away the excess paper.

Step 2:  Using a palette knife, smear DecoArt Media Crackle Paste randomly on the tag. Let completely air dry. The inset picture shows you the lovely crackle effect when dry.

Step 3:  Brush over the tag with DecoArt Chalky Finish Romance Paint for a beautiful vintage matte appearance. Heat set. Next, Randomly brush DecoArt Vintage Effects over the tag; wiping away excess and adding more paint as needed to create a really lovely vintage feel.  Then repeat this step again; adding more red and white layers.  Heat set in between each layer.

Just look at all of the texture and varied colors!

Brush on a wash of water and Decoart Media Fluid Acrylics Burnt Umber paint and wipe away the excess. This gives your tag even more of an aged, vintage look.

Cover the Tando Creative Pieces with DecoArt Media Crackle Paste.  I used my finger to get more of a random coverage and then used a Craft Pick to clean out excess Crackle Paste between the roman numerals.  (I also cut the clock about 2/3 across to fit on my tag the way I wanted it to). Let these pieces completely air dry.

When dry, I added DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Metallic Gold paint using a small brush to cover the crackle paint.

I also added some of the Metallic Gold Paint to my tag using my finger to create a soft shimmer in the light.

Next add some DecoArt Fluid Acrylics Burnt Umber with your finger over the crackled gold Tando Creative pieces to give them more of an aged appearance.  I also added Burnt Umber around the edge of the tag wiping it with my finger to define the edges of the tag.

Next I instantly aged a retro Santa tag by lightly brushing a wash of water and DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide.  In the inset, you can see the difference that the Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide makes!  I absolutely LOVE this paint!  It's one of my favorite vintage style tools!

Next glue the clock face in place on the tag using DecoArt Media Liquid Glass as a glue.  It dries clear and is an excellent glue.

For an even more vintage appeal, I added white Flocking randomly on my Santa tag.  I did this by using a small brush and brushing DecoArt Media Matte Medium over areas of the tag that I wanted to be covered in the flocking.  Then I sprinkled the flocking on top of the wet Matte Medium, gently tapped it down, lifted up the tag and tapped off the excess flocking. I also anchored the holly greenery garland through the tag hole.

Here you get a closer look at the flocking that has been applied with the DecoArt Matte Medium.  It's the little details like this that can make all the difference!

The Santa tag is almost finished!  I layed everything in place to get my design and then hot glued everything down.  The Tando Creative Book Plate is raised with a couple of pop dots underneath.  The "Dear Santa" is stamped onto cardstock that was washed with a DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide wash. The next to the last step was to use my finger to wipe DecoArt Media Fluid Acryilcs Metallic Gold around the edges of the tag. This really pulled everything together.

And finally, I hot glued all of the little vintage bells, beads and bows in place to complete the festive look.

Merry Christmas everyone!
