Lots to Tell!

Hi everyone,
I have a few things to post today as it's been a week since my last entry and there has been lot's happening this week.
First up is to let you know I will be at the Craft Barn on the first weekend of September.
The Saturday will be a FREE demo day of which details are listed below and will also be holding a day workshop on the Sunday, unfortunately the workshop is now fully booked but I am hoping to do more in the near future.
Also the fantastic Wishing well over at the Craft Barn Blog are having an Andy Skinner week on the run up to the weekend..I feel so honoured!!
The very talented design team will be providing step by step tutorials on the blog throughout the week so please check it out.

SATURDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER - ANDY SKINNER DAY AT THE CRAFTBARN

From watercolouring to alcohol inks
Andy Skinner, Carol Cockbain and Lina McDermott will be showing you loads of ideas using Andy’s stamps combined with lots of other goodies in our free demo day at The Craft Barn.

Ok next up is the news that I have received in the post this week, the first sets of my new Christmas Stamps…Yes I know it's only July but I am absolutely thrilled with them.
I have spent a long time designing these sets, most of the stamps on two of the sets can be used all year round and not just for Christmas which was my main aim. The third set has more of a traditional…slightly retro Christmas feel to it.
I will be posting samples of them on here in the next few days.

Finally I just wanted to share my latest mixed media painting with you which is inspired by Gary Reef.
It is my first attempt on a 24cm x 17cm piece of Plexi Glass, adding layers on both the reverse and the front mean's the painting has great depth, although it is very hard to show this in a photograph.
Media used on this project is Stazon Ink, Acrylic paint, alcohol Ink, isopropanol and gold leaf.
I have a new video camera…yea!!! so I may do a little video of it enabling you to see the depth of the different layers.
aaa
Bye for now,

Andy

Can You Guess What it is Yet?

I was cleaning up my desk last night (A rare occasion) when I remembered a video that I watched about using your scraps of paper, cardstock etc to make a collage.. Well this is what came out of it, all that was used is scrap paper & cardstock cuttings, a little string, paper towel and some baking foil glued on to a small Decopatch canvas and painted with Americana acrylics and Ink.

Raindrop Background

Here is a different take on Isoclene backgrounds using Adirondack® Alcohol Inks, Americana Acrylic Paint and Isoclene.

DSC_0676
The test tile was first painted with Americana Turquoise Blue. Images were then stamped on with Stazon Black.
Drops of Alcohol Ink in Cranberry and Denim were placed randomly over the surface. Small drops of Gold Alcohol Ink were then placed in the centre of the larger drops.
Finally drops of Isoclene were added to the centre making the gold disperse.
Its a really nice effect that reminds me of raindrops. I am going to use this in some larger projects as soon as a get a few more colours of Adirondack® Alcohol Ink.

Rudolf's on the alcohol again!

Had a chance today to have a quick play with my Adirondack alcohol inks on this Heart shaped Ceramic Christmas tree decoration. The stamp came free with a magazine.
I must use these inks more.
How many sleeps left till Christmas?? 40 days, is it really that close already!

Tick Tock Make Your Own Clock

Hello all,
Clocks make great gifts and really are not that expensive to produce.
These 20cm x 20cm bisque tiles make such wonderful clock faces so today I decided to make a few using Inks, image transfer and acrylic paint.

First of all I designed a few clock templates in Photoshop which I could then print as a mirror image and transfer onto the tiles.
Here are the templates.
Templates now uploaded here.

For the first clock I simply sprayed my laser printed image with Americana Gloss spray sealer and transferred the image onto the tile. Black ink works great with this method. If you missed the tutorial on this technique look under image transfer on this blog.
I then coloured in the design with a brush using Versa inks mixed with a little water. I have never used Pro Markers but I’m sure they would work great for this, they are next on my shopping list!  The design in the corners was stamped using Stazon Jet Black ink. I then fitted the clock mechanism.
The frame was base coated in Dazzling Metallic Emperors Gold, once dry I stamped the frame with embossing ink and lightly dusted with Gold Perfect Pearls.

The same method has been used for this clock other than the frame which I applied a walnut effect to using Americana acrylics.

I love this British Grunge clock, this ones coming home with me!!
I have used the Duraclear Matte image transfer method for this clock which is also explained in a tutorial on this blog.

Take care,
Andy

Lets Be Negative For A Moment!

I have been playing with chemicals again!

The copper enamelling blank below was first placed on a bed of coconut shell carbon granules and heated with a Crème Brulee torch. The carbon reacts with the copper to produce strong colours.
Next I stamped on an image using Stazon Black. I really like how it looks now but I can’t help myself from experimenting more.

Ok so the next step was to add 5 drops of liver of sulphur to a shallow dish.
Liver of sulphur smells like rotten eggs so be warned!

I then added boiling water to the liver of sulphur and immersed the copper blank into it.

After 5 minutes the copper turned completely black.

Next I emptied the liver of sulphur down the sink and ran cold water over the copper blank. The cold water neutralises the liver of sulphur and the rotten egg smell will have gone.

The copper was then sprayed with Stazon Cleaner.

I then wiped away the Stazon ink to reveal the copper beneath leaving me with a negative image.

Jack Daniels comes to mind for some reason.....Hick!

Below is a copper heart pendant using the same technique and finished with a coat of Americana gloss sealer.

I hope that all makes sence?!
