Coming up for air!

It's the end of what has been a very fun but busy few days and I'm coming up for air!
On Saturday I was at the Artistic Stamper in Faversham  running the second Tando gothic clock workshop using Decoart paints and mediums. I again was looked after very well and it was lovely to meet everyone in the class, I had a great day and I am sure you will agree they all did a fantastic job with there clocks.

On Sunday I was at the Craft Barn, holding the first Gelli Plate workshop.
We used a mixture of both Decoart Americana and Traditions acrylic paint and took prints on both paper and acetate.
Unfortunately I forgot to take photo's but here are a few examples I made during the day.

Then onto Monday and I spent the day bespoke training on baby hand and foot keepsakes  and yesterday we held a Decoart product training day at Country love crafts in Oxfordshire.

So today I am trying to catch up with emails and everything else, apologies to anyone awaiting a reply from me, I will get there in the end.

A quick message to those who attended my book of ruination workshop at The Craft Barn a few weeks back, I lost the paper with your email addresses on :( could you email me for the pdf files?

Thanks for reading.

Gelli Printing... A different approach

I tried something a little different with my Gelli plate today and thought I would video the process.
This is the finished piece from the video called "After the Storm"  The doorway however was added on the right as an after thought.
As you will see in the video I placed a rough sketch of the composition underneath the Gelli plate first and  also cut a couple of custom masks from acetate.
Normally I build up my prints with lots of thin translucent layers but for this I applied the paint heavier, often covering much of the layer beneath and painting in my warm and cool tones with the brayer directly onto the plate.

Got some really cool textures going on!

Here is the video, sorry its hard sometimes to see the prints coming off the plate but the video was too long and I had to speed it up!

It Cracks me up!

Thought I had better catch up on what I have been up to the past few days, my workshop last weekend was cancelled due to the awful weather so I used the time to update my website and this blog so that they kind of match and look similar, I was going to move the blog over to the website but after looking into it it's far to much hassle!

I have also been experimenting with new product and techniques, below is a book box using Decoart Texture Crackle, mediums and Traditions Acrylic paint.

I achieved some really nice effects on this Iridescent project, needs a bit more tinkering and its hard to see  from a photo but as you turn the book cover in the light it changes from pink to purple to blue to green!

Fangellitastic!

The more I use my Gelli printing plate the more I learn and love it, believe me when I say I have had quite a few go straight to the bin in the past but that's part and parcel of the learning process.

I have been designing some stencils and masks over the past few months and printing with the Gelli plate has taught me lots about that also.

First up is this print called "A Day on the Beach" incorporating one of my new designs, more to come on the new releases in a later post.

Here is another Gelli print with a bit of good old flower power going on.... Peace :)

Its time to put the paints and inks away, tidy my work area and start wrapping presents.... its harder said than done as I tend to be one of these people that once an idea comes, be it 3am in the morning I feel compelled to start there an then!

This will not be my last post before xmas but the last one with any artwork.... I hope :)

Using a Gelli Plate with Acetate

Had a go using my Gelli plate with a piece of acetate today, with this method you are kind of working backwards so you have to train your mind with the process...

The picture really does not do this justice as the metal leaf absolutely radiates through the acrylic layers.
Gelli print stencils andy skinner

The Skull was first stencilled on with Black acrylic, the barbed wire, cogs, code and splats were stamped with black Stazon.
White acrylic was then painted within the scull area.

It was then time for the Gelli plate, Traditions in Raw Sienna, Quinacridone Burnt Orange, and a mix of Prussian Blue and White.

I then applied metal leaf to the reverse.

Finally I finished with acrylic in Aquamarine, Blue Green, Red Violet and White

I am loving this Gelli Printing Plate :)
