Coming up for air!

It's the end of what has been a very fun but busy few days and I'm coming up for air!
On Saturday I was at the Artistic Stamper in Faversham  running the second Tando gothic clock workshop using Decoart paints and mediums. I again was looked after very well and it was lovely to meet everyone in the class, I had a great day and I am sure you will agree they all did a fantastic job with there clocks.

On Sunday I was at the Craft Barn, holding the first Gelli Plate workshop.
We used a mixture of both Decoart Americana and Traditions acrylic paint and took prints on both paper and acetate.
Unfortunately I forgot to take photo's but here are a few examples I made during the day.

Then onto Monday and I spent the day bespoke training on baby hand and foot keepsakes  and yesterday we held a Decoart product training day at Country love crafts in Oxfordshire.

So today I am trying to catch up with emails and everything else, apologies to anyone awaiting a reply from me, I will get there in the end.

A quick message to those who attended my book of ruination workshop at The Craft Barn a few weeks back, I lost the paper with your email addresses on :( could you email me for the pdf files?

Dieselpunk Tags

I wanted the tags to have a Dieselpunk style, if you have never heard of Dieselpunk here is a brief description I found on Dieselpunks.org
Dieselpunk is a style that blends the art and culture of the 1920s - 1950s with today.
The era we look to for inspiration was defined by movement and revolution: jazz, modern art, world wars, streamlined technology, and an evolution from stilted, Victorian-era hypocrisy. Our goal is to shape a better future for ourselves by merging the zeitgeist of the past with today's technology and attitudes.

I will leave you with my new Outcasts video, upon making it I miss counted how many hours of video are on the workshop… its now close to 9 hours!!

Sally in Stitches!

Hi everyone,
I've not blogged for a few days as I have been so busy preparing samples for the Craft Hobby and Stitch Show,  both for my new stamps and for Decoart.
I finally finished Sally this afternoon!!! I have taken a few pictures before she gets bubble wrapped and taken away. Hopefully you will be able to see the scale of her in the second picture as I have placed an Americana paint bottle next to her tail.
I have used as many Decoart paints and mediums as possible on this project, I hope you like her!


Tomorrow is the final day to get everything packed before travelling up to the NEC.  I will be blogging each day while at the show and hope to see some of you there!
I will be on the Decoart Stand  B17 apart from when running workshops.

Card Stock?? What's that!

Good morning all,
As most of you know I work mainly on ceramics using glazes & acrylic paint, although my roots lay with canvas and watercolour paper.
Over the past six months I have had this incredible urge to work with card stock but each time I have tried the card stock does not seem to be able to withstand the abuse I put it through when experimenting with different mediums etc..That was until I was recommended a 300 gsm card stock by Lindsay Mason. Lindsay is a freelance artist and one of the designers for Personal Impressions.

This card has held up to everything I have thrown at it, from texture pastes to gesso applied with a pallet knife! 

Below are a few of my first ever experiments with Decoart acrylic, mediums and ink on this cardstock.

Tick Tock Make Your Own Clock

Hello all,
Clocks make great gifts and really are not that expensive to produce.
These 20cm x 20cm bisque tiles make such wonderful clock faces so today I decided to make a few using Inks, image transfer and acrylic paint.

First of all I designed a few clock templates in Photoshop which I could then print as a mirror image and transfer onto the tiles.

For the first clock I simply sprayed my laser printed image with Americana Gloss spray sealer and transferred the image onto the tile. Black ink works great with this method. If you missed the tutorial on this technique look under image transfer on this blog.
I then coloured in the design with a brush using Versa inks mixed with a little water. I have never used Pro Markers but I’m sure they would work great for this, they are next on my shopping list!  The design in the corners was stamped using Stazon Jet Black ink. I then fitted the clock mechanism.
The frame was base coated in Dazzling Metallic Emperors Gold, once dry I stamped the frame with embossing ink and lightly dusted with Gold Perfect Pearls.

The same method has been used for this clock other than the frame which I applied a walnut effect to using Americana acrylics.

I love this British Grunge clock, this ones coming home with me!! 
I have used the Duraclear Matte image transfer method for this clock which is also explained in a tutorial on this blog.

Transfer Me

As promised here is a quick picture tutorial of the Decoart Americana image transfer technique.
The Image must be a laser print or copy.

Shake Americana Gloss sealer well and lightly spray the image until you start to see the ink rise as if it were slightly embossed.

Quickly place the paper image side down onto the pottery and run a brayer over it a few times


Remove the paper and the image should have transferred to the pottery with a grungy look to it.


I tried this one on paper earlier.

Tomorrow I will be posting a different Image transfer technique that I am working on at the moment, I will twitter it as soon as its up online.

A quick glimpse at todays work on Sally

Just a quick post tonight as I have just returned home after working on the salamander project for the NEC and thought I would share a quick glimpse,

I will share more later in the week as I am teaching an enamelling course in the morning and need Lemsip and bed……I think it’s man flu coming on!!
