Media Board - Book Panel - Brenda

I have been having fun with chipboards for this project. I love layering up greyboard shapes but sometimes they end up protruding too high especially if you want to use some in a journal or on media boards. So for this project I have soaked some of my Andy greyboard shapes and pulled them apart and it's amazing how you can then play with distressing the layers of the greyboard and even get to put some back together again to create different shapes as I have done here.

I am using a piece of greyboard cut to the size I want as a page for the Andy book I am making.

I took my chosen greyboard shapes and soak the ones I wanted to split into thinner pieces and distress. These can be dried with a heat gun.

I split the industrial wings into 4 pieces and took the two thinnest ones for this project. When they were dry I glued them together to create a new shape with a hole in the centre and added the very distressed heart. I decided to use a retro palette for the rest of the colouring up.

There are more details and photos over at Bumblebees and Butterflies if you would like to see how this came together.

Thanks for stopping by.

CAPTURED MOMENTS WITH TANDO CREATIVE

Hello Everyone.

It's Candy and I'm back again with a brand new vintage/industrial style wall decor piece for you made with Andy Skinner's amazing lines of products including DecoArt Media, Tando Creative Greyboard, Andy's Stencils and Stampendous Stamps.  Let's have a look:

I began with an 8" x 8" greyboard background from one of Andy's new wall art kits through Tando Creative called Compendium.

First I brushed DecoArt Media Gesso over the entire background. Next I used DecoArt Modeling Paste and/or DecoArt Media Crackle Paste with various Andy Skinner Stencils: Bubbles, Time Warp, Distressed Digits and Old Film randomly placed and allowed to dry in between applications until the entire surface was covered. I also added some Crackle Paste to fill in black areas or combine the stencil images together.  The I let everything completely air dry.

I then brushed a wash created with water and a combination of DecoArt Media Yellow Oxide and Titan Buff over the background. Once dry, I added a wash of water and DecoArt Media Cobalt Turquoise Hue.  I brushed the background at the top and allowed it to run and drip down the background. When I was happy with the look, I heat set it.

Using a finger sponge, I highlighted areas of the background with DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Worn Penny paint.  I stamped a script image from Andy's Textures Stamp Set randomly on the surface. Finally to pull everything together, I used my finger to apply DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Carbon Black paint around the edges of the greyboard essentially framing it.

Other elements in Andy's Compendium Industrial Wall Art Kit included some gears, bolts, etc.  I painted all of these with a black base and then using the new DecoArt Matte Metallics, I transformed these black greyboard pieces into rusty, worn appearing "metal" gears. I also altered an actual silver  sewing machine bobbin into a rusted wonder. These paints are fantastic!!

One of my favorite new Andy kits from Tando is the So Call Me Already set.  It features two sizes of old rotary phone dials.  You see the larger on in this picture.  It comes complete with the numbers, an acrylic plate and the center of the dial left open so you can add anything you choose.  I added a butterfly and a rusty ink pen nib to mine.  The dial is painted with Carbon Black and coated with a Gloss Varnish.

I also added a couple of old pictures and stenciled numbers using another of Andy's stencils: Industrial Elements.  I also added a vintage photo of a telephone operator that I found on the internet.  All of these pieces were covered with pieces from a Mica sheet and glued in place using DecoArt Media Matte Medium.  It dries clear and makes for a a wonderful glue and sealer.  All of these pieces really add character to the wall art piece.

And my latest obesssion is Andy's new Rusty Wire!!!  This stuff is so amazing and adds so much to any industrial or mixed media piece!   It's so easy to work with!  I had so much fun wrapping and curling and bending this wire to fit onto my wall art piece.  And it added SO MUCH!

Here is a closeup of some of the wire and how it was wrapped and curled and became such an intricate part of the piece.

At the bottom of the wall art piece, I added this sentiment.  It was stenciled using Titan Buff on black chipboard.  It came from Andy's Old Film Stencil and I thought it was perfect for this wall art! I painted around the edge using DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Worn Penny Paint.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope that this wall art piece has inspired you to really enjoy creating and experimenting!

INDUSTRIAL ELEMENTS DOOR PLATE CANVAS

I am so honored to be a member of Andy's Creative Design Team!
There are just so many fun things to experiment and play with!

Andy has teamed with some fantastic companies as well as carrying his own line of supplies that make mixed media art even MORE fun!

Today I am sharing with you a very dimensional 5" x 7" canvas that has an industrial/steampunkish flare.  This canvas is featuring one of Andy's wonderful Tando Creative kits: Industrial Elements, as well as a few other Tando Creative pieces.

I LOVE wire and Andy is now carrying some very grungy fabulously rusty wire IN HIS OWN ONLINE STORE.  The dimension and detail simple wire adds to a project is unbelievable!  You can wrap it, curl it up into springs, let it free flow through a project and even glue elements to it as if they were floating.

Here is a closer look at the finished canvas.  See what I mean about the wire free flowing and allowing things to "float"?  LOVE IT!

Let's get to all of the details!

I began with a burlap canvas because I love the texture already there before you add anything to it.  Using a palette knife, I added swipes DecoArt's Media Gesso followed by a wash of water and DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylics Dark Grey Volume 3.  This made for a wonderful grungy base to work with.

Using Andy's wonderful Illusioinary Artist Tech Trauma stamp set, I heat embossed (using black embossing powder) a calculations stamp and a diagram stamp.  I then wiped some embossing ink around the edges of the canvas, sprinkled them with the black embossing powder, brushed off the excess and heat set the grungy black edges of the canvas.  Love the industrial feel of the canvas already coming out here!

Now for a pop of color and another layer of interest for the canvas!  Using Andy's Made To Measure stencil, I added a combination of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Transparent Red Iron Oxide mixed with Cadmium Red Hue to add the numbers on the left of the canvas.  Then still using the stencil brush, I wiped some of the color randomly on the canvas and around the edges of the canvas.

Now that the basic canvas was ready, it was time to start adding my dimensional elements.  I LOVE Andy's Industrial Elements kit.  There are so many pieces that you can mix and match. I even use the throw away stuff that you punch out of the pieces.  For example:  the arc at the top of the door plate and the little red "heart" directly below the keyhole. I also added a clock hand from another of Tando's greyboard sets.  I glued all of my greyboard pieces together using DecoArt's Media Liquid Glass.  It dries quickly and clear.

In the inset picture, you can see how the door plate finished out through the magic of Andy's techniques and DecoArt's Media Line products.

I basically started this process by painting the entire piece first with a combination of Decoart's Media Fluid Acrylics Blue Green Light and Cobalt Teal Hue.  Next to soften the color and give it more of a grungy look, I dry brushed DecoArt's Fluid Acrylics Yellow Oxide randomly over everything.  Then I added bits of Metallic Silver on the nuts and blots, the gear and the arc at the top of the door plate. To create depth, I added yet another layer of dry brushing with the paints in this picture.  First DecoArt's Media Fluid Acrylics Burnt Umber to give a shadowy effect.  Then Payne's Grey around all of the raised pieces to give even more depth and dimension.  Finally, I dry brushed and then tamped one of my favorites, DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Quinacridone Gold randomly over everything to create that wonderful rusty appearance.

I added some stamping on top of the door plate using Andy's Word Up Illusionary Artists stamp set.  "Secret" and the combination of numbers on the arc on top of the door plate are stamped with DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Titanium White.  The series of numbers in the center plate are heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Finally, I wire wrapped around and through the door plate, letting the wire free flow to the left side of the canvas where I attached a vintage clock face and some other rusty elements.  The vintage dominoes, tiny clock pieces, round clock face, metal key and dangling metal pieces are things I had in my stash and they worked perfectly with Andy's elements!

Sacred Secrets with patina effect by Monika Maksym

Hi!
It's Monika here with my latest project.  This time I've decided to show you the latest kit designed by Andy and made by Tando Creative. This set comes with many elements, you can use them all in one project or separate them like I did.

I start with painting each element with tinting base which works great as a primer. Then industrial wings were covered with modelling paste to create rough texture and painted black along with cog and bolts. I've also used antiquing cream as it helps to accent the lovely texture. Then I've rubbed on a little bit of metallic lustre wax. The frame was painted with crackle paint and sliglthy aged with antiquing cream and a black paint.

On the main piece that was painted in black first I've used weathered wood medium and grey paint on top. To add more character to it I've added a washes of media acrylic fluids, streaks and splatters of paint. Then a word was stamped on it. Little heart was painted with turquoise paint, liquid glass and some micro beads were added on then I've rubbed some metallic lustre wax on the little frame and top crown.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you like it
Monika

Vintage Heart Tag - Brenda Brown

Andy's stamps have really been inspiring me to make all sorts of projects and today I am sharing a little tag from one of his new kits from Tando Creative called Tagtastic 2. For this one I went back to my roots and created in a vintage style.

I worked in my usual layers to create the background hic includes gesso mixed with silver and brayered on to start me off and one of Andy's texture stamps from the Textures set.

The heart ended up with this patina look having been run through an embossing folder, daubed with media acrylic paints, sanded and then dribbled with quinacridone gold to finish it off.

You can see where I added some crackle paste through a stencil before ......

.... adding a rusty wire loop to hang the heart over the decorated brad.

A vintage photo and just a smattering of timeworn elements with a quote word finished it off.

It was lovely to return to a real vintage look for this project and if you'd like to see more of the process and photos there are some over at Bumblebees and Butterflies if you have a moment.

Thanks for stopping by.

hugs Brenda
