Open Day June 2011

Hi all,
it's been such a busy mad week since returning from the Craft Barn Extravaganza.  I have been preparing for the Country Love Crafts Sale & Unveil Open Day being held tomorrow. There has been so much I have wanted to do this week, videos to make,  blogs to visit and messages to write but it's been impossible, so apologies to anyone that is awaiting a reply, I have answered all the urgent ones and I will get around to the rest sometime this week, saying that I fly out to Scotland first thing Tuesday morning to run some bespoke workshops in Edinburgh for a couple of days but I am hoping the hotel will have an internet connection so I can get stuff done in the evenings..

I am going to be running two Ceramic workshops along with two demo's during tomorrows event, here is a sneak peak at a couple of them…Ohhh exciting!!



Not much else to report today except I gave Sally a new coat!   For those of you who have no idea who sally is, she is a mixed media Salamander, a project I took on to show at Stitches trade show this year.
I gave her a nice shiny coat with one of the new products being shown tomorrow. I will reveal all after Monday!
Here she is, I have placed a 10 pence piece next to her foot so you can get an idea of her size.

Sally in Stitches!

Hi everyone,
I've not blogged for a few days as I have been so busy preparing samples for the Craft Hobby and Stitch Show,  both for my new stamps and for Decoart.
I finally finished Sally this afternoon!!! I have taken a few pictures before she gets bubble wrapped and taken away. Hopefully you will be able to see the scale of her in the second picture as I have placed an Americana paint bottle next to her tail.
I have used as many Decoart paints and mediums as possible on this project, I hope you like her!


Tomorrow is the final day to get everything packed before travelling up to the NEC.  I will be blogging each day while at the show and hope to see some of you there!
I will be on the Decoart Stand  B17 apart from when running workshops.

A quick glimpse at todays work on Sally

Just a quick post tonight as I have just returned home after working on the salamander project for the NEC and thought I would share a quick glimpse,

I will share more later in the week as I am teaching an enamelling course in the morning and need Lemsip and bed……I think it’s man flu coming on!!

Part 2. Sally Can’t Wait

I spent a few hours with Sally today and realised that this project is going to take more time than I originally thought, I do have three months but am going to have to spend more than a couple of hours a week on it.

So far I have used eleven products from the Decoart range, five from Personal Impressions and two from Decopatch, it is truly going to be a complete mixed media project!






Here is a close up of some of the detail using 3d writers, inks, glass paint and acrylics to form a henna tattoo style section within the patchwork.

I’m so busy at the moment so sorry for the lack of posting but things should be back to normal by the end of the week, fingers crossed!

Part 1. Introducing Sally

Meet Sally, she is the new extra large Decopatch Salamander and measures a total of 103cm that's 40.6 inches.
She has been given to me to use as a mixed media project decorated using Decoart products combined with stamps and inks etc. Sally will be on display at the Craft Hobby & Stitch International Trade Show at the NEC Birmingham in February 2011.

I am going to work a few hours a week on this project and will post pictures of Sally’s progress along the way….I may even give her a blog of her own or maybe a page on this blog.
I started today by applying two coats of Decoart Gesso

Its hard to see in this picture but I have divided the body up into stripes so that a different technique can be used in each. I have stamped into the gesso in a few of the sections along the body.

I want sally to be bright and colourful so I am playing around with a few test colours but not very happy with them yet.

Ok it’s time to put Sally to bed and go home to eat!
